PvE Servers vs. PvP Servers

As mentioned before I've played on both as a rogue so I feel I have some insight into this subject that some others might lack. I levelled Chromed from 0 to 60 on Scilla (PvP). During that whole time I got ganked once. It was by a rogue 8 levels higher than me when I was at 25% health, poisoned, and fighting a spider near the river in Hillsbrad. It was my own stupid fault for fighting out in an exposed area.

Once again, I got ganked once going from 0 to 60.

Playing a rogue on a world PvP server = EZmode when compared to other classes. All you have to be is somewhat intelligent in where and how you fight and be aware of your surroundings. See a bunch of dead MOBs laying around? OMG, there might be somebody nearby! Never fight in the same place for a long period of time. Move around. Pull stuff to out of the way areas that are hard to see. You can avoid fights you don't want and lay in to people you do want to fight as a rogue.

Now, on the other hand. If you are a nonstealth class and you levelled up doing world quests (rather than just instance grinding in complete safety). Then, you have my respect. You have probably been jumped numerous times by rogues and other classes while half health and fighting a mob.... and that shit... will toughen you up.

/hats off

But, for a ROGUE to talk like they are all badass just because they play on a PVP is absolutely 100% laughable. I'm talking to you here, Ming. Play a nonstealth class on a PvP server and then you can talk about how rough and tough it is. But, if you are a rogue, just keep your mouth shut IMO.

Now, with that said. Cross-server BGs mix PvE and PvP servers and I will freely admit that, overall, the better PvPers DO come from PvP servers. When I actually sit down to make my cuts, I'm surprised by how many people show up from Arthas and Mannoroth. I don't have the actual percentages, but it's significant. People on PvP servers tend to be better at PvP than people on PvE servers. I'm convinced of that.

That does NOT mean that there are no great PvPers on PvE servers. When I killed all of those PvP server players in the BGs, I wonder if their last words were something like: "How could this be? How.. could.. I have... been... killed by.... a .... PvE.... player..... gahhhhck."

Probably not, but the image of that amuses me nonetheless.

Ming's weakass argument that's grasping at straws in some pathetic attempt to insult you. Next up. You didn't name yourself after a girl that has a restraining order out on you. You fool!

Niar here.. I fully agree with your view of PvE and PvP, it's such a joke that some rogues try to act cocky about them having leveled up and played on PvP server, who the fuck cares about that. In fact it's even easier being a rogue on PvP server than PvE (atleast if you're looking for fights), how often do you actually find PvP flagged people on PvE? So easy to just run around in stealth and ganking random naabs that have 10 sec reaction time..

I don't have the problem on my server. It's a PvP Server with players who think they are in a PvE Server :D

I understand what you mean, Ulric. After the cross-server BGs came out, the outer zones really cleared out, but when you did run across people a lot of times you would see alliance and horde farming mats or whatever right next to each other. Just like on a PvE server.

Alliance and horde just started ignoring each other basically. There was very little "reward" for doing any World PvP, so why waste the time when you were out there to get exp, mats, gold, items, or whatever.

Oozo - you are completley correct about PVP servers.

I have levelled characters on both types - at no point on PVP servers did I ever enage in world pvp that could remotley be described as "skillful. It was either me being ganked by a skull level, or me doing the ganking in return when I had levelled up.

Fun, yes. But a laughable indicator of skill.

Skypher,

Sorry, missed your question in all the chaos. I already had a 64 shadow priest alt, so I just picked that up again. I'll be playing SP til another game grabs me.

On Skullcrusher there are still contested zones where "red is dead" but, in the new Outland zones in particular, all but the most bitter rival guilds will farm rep items next to each other, or at least just give each other some space and work in a kind of dance almost of coordinated killing, moving and then someone taking the re-pop.

I'm thinking of places like Skettis and Legion Hold in particular. Some of the "hardcore" will get on the server forums and whine about the place becoming "carebear" but, really, I think everyone just wants to get through the grind and throw down later. World bosses, Ring of Blood (had to do it three times myself) and the Elemental Plateau are hardly ever "safe".

Then there's the really odd encounters like my third attempt on Ring of Blood, the named dragon for the Stealther's Helm quest and Tartulla or whatever the big spider was in Terrokar. My group got DPS support from a Horde group that was also there to take the boss down. We did it quickly, then hung out and helped them.

Six months or a year from now I doubt folks will encounter the same behavior but it was interesting. I still laugh at being MCd by a Horde priest and told "stay" so that I wouldn't try to kill him while he dueled another priest in my group, waiting for the boss to re-pop, hah-hah.

Oozo you are very dense. Ming meant the verifiable fact that in every battlegroup the vast majority of top (20, 100, 200, whatever) arena teams are from pvp servers.

Todays BGs are a joke, and ganking ppl wasting time in wsg (then checking their armory to see if you caught someone geared and can include in movie) is silly. They are not trying. Writing a giant analysis of your movie where over and over it's "155 resilience, 10,500 HP, Mooncleaver, TOP GEARED WARRIOR!!!) is silly as well, as these stats are below avg let alone "top".

I think Mings argument summarized is "Dont criticize others based on their victims gear and rankings when you fight in BGs off a pve server and refuse to step foot in arenas". simple as that.

As for the inflammatory stuff he writes its called "humor" (look it up) combined with purposefully stirring things up (for traffic). Your droning walls of text make one want to stab his eyes out.

@ Vaj

With all do respect, ganking people grinding mobs or AFK or on their way to a raid or otherwise engaged in PvE activities is okay for a PvP video though, moreso than PvE people engaged in a PvP activity? Am I following what you're saying?

Also, the look up the Armory to discount opponents was pulled on Oozo, more than once, before his comments towards Neilyo's opponents.

People with short/selective memories, lack of comprehension and convenient discounts makes one want to stab other people's eyes out.

I said "with all do respect."

Raggok said...

Wow, Val - I mean just wow.

First of all, I said I think that *overall* players from PvP servers are better at PvP players from PvE servers.

But, about the BG comment... I mean, have you even read another of the other posts on this blog? NEILYO himself thinks that World PvP on a PvP server is weaker and less credible than PvP in the BGs. And he is absolutely 100% correct in his analysis.

""ganking ppl wasting time in wsg is silly. They are not trying.""

But ganking people farming in world PVP that aren't even trying is good stuff? Hello, Mr. Double Standard.

""Writing a giant analysis of your movie where over and over it's "155 resilience, 10,500 HP, Mooncleaver, TOP GEARED WARRIOR!!!)""

First of all, I would have never said anything like "TOP GEARED WARRIOR", that is a blatant lie said with no other intention than hurting my reputation. I freely admit that the opponents in my movie are not the "best of the best." It's in the fucking introduction of my movie.

You see -now I'm starting to get angry. This person is basically lying. Flat out lying and distorting what I've said and done. And what is worse he goes and tells his friends this lie and they tell their friends, and it starts to become the truth. It's called propaganda - look it up. It is a very effective tool for demonizing people.

And, then I start getting ignorant people bitching me out for saying I had "TOP GEARED WARRIORS" in my movie.

I hate people like Val with a passion.

Raggok said...

And, I should probably add. That even though I didn't have TOP GEARED WARRIORS in Oozo Lives. The 4 or 5 that I did had were FAR better than the ONE featured in Neilyo's movie.

Your assessment of PvE vs. PvP is downright ridiculous. MMO's are, first and foremost, a time investment. Leveling to 60 (or 70 nowadays) is simply a reflection of time invested, not skill! I'm not a follower of your blog, yet I casually perused your recent posts and found you to be far too immature for my liking.

You take the time to make a claims such as "calling your own cease fire" and then go on to ridicule and mock Ming some more. No I am not a fan of Ming either for the record. I find both of you to be pompous children who missed out on some key stage of their childhood and now seek to replace their lost dignity via the internet.

Uh what? I mean, what you just typed there doesn't address anything that has to do with the PvE Servers vs. PvP Servers article. Players in the BGs are more likely to be prepared for PvP than players farming mats in World PVP. Isn't this obvious?

What does "levelling to 60 doesn't require skill!" have to do with any of what I posted.

Oh, maybe I see what you are getting at? No, levelling to 60 doesn't require skill, but levelling to 60 while a bunch of rogues keep trying to snipe your ass will improve your survival skills (unless you enjoy long corpse runs).

As for your last paragraph. Whatever. If that makes you happy and think you are "superior" to me, grats.

As far as the "cease fire." What that meant was that I won't post on Ming's blog anymore as long as Ming doesn't post anymore lies about me on the front page of his blog.

I haven't made a post there, since I called my "cease fire" BTW. Just like I haven't made a post on the rogue forums since I said I was leaving that forum, either.
